Yesterday I came across the Makes Me Think website. If you aren't acquainted with what that is, it's a site where people submit tidbits of their life, small scenarios that made them think. Many of these also made me think, so I thought I'd share a few today. Let's ponder shall we?
These are all great but the ones with the *s are my favorites.
Today, while I was driving my grandfather to his doctor's appointment, I complained about hitting 2 red lights in a row. My grandfather chuckled and said, "You always complain about the red lights, but you never celebrate the green ones." MMT *
Today, after I watched my dog get run over by a car, I sat on the side of the road holding him and crying. And just before he died, he licked the tears off my face. MMT *
Today, I was driving to a job interview when I saw a businesswoman standing next to her BMW on the side of the road. She had a flat tire. I pulled over and helped her put on the spare. When I arrived to the interview, the woman who I helped ended up being the CEO of the company. I got the job. MMT
Today, as soon as my 5-year-old baby brother came into my room, I yelled at him to get out without even looking up at him. When he didn't listen and I turned around to yell again, I noticed he had a bowl of cherries (my favorite) in his hands. He said, "Sorry, I just wanted to share these with you." MMT
Today I was approached by a homeless man who asked if I had any change. I only had two dimes, but I gave it to him anyway. As I watched him walk away, he put the dimes in an expired parking meter of a strangers car. MMT
Today, a girl who I see everyday at work, who's always the most chipper person in the office, committed suicide. MMT
Today, I was in line at the store behind a man holding a dozen roses. When he got up to the cashier's counter, he realized that the cashier looked sad. The man smiled and said, "I'm buying 11 of these roses for my wife." And then he handed the cashier the 12th rose. She smiled from ear to ear. MMT
Today, in the grocery store parking lot, I watched a man run as fast as he could with a packed shopping cart and then jump on the back for a ride. He smiled and chuckled aloud as he rode the cart all the way to his car. He was in his mid-40's and wearing a formal suit and tie. MMT *
Today, like every day for the last 4 years, my father picked a fresh flower from his garden and took it to my mother. This time I decided to go with him to see her. And as he placed the flower on her grave, he said, “I just wish I had picked her a fresh flower every day when she was alive.” MMT
Today, after eating lunch, I walked out of a restaurant carrying a box of leftovers. A homeless man came up to me and asked if he could have some of the food. I ignored him and kept walking. Two minutes later, I tripped over a curb and spilled the leftovers all over the sidewalk. MMT
Today, I went ice skating. Everyone skating was young, except one guy in his mid-50’s. He kept falling down and smiling. And all the kids kept laughing along with him. I asked him why he decided to skate today. He said, "I was at work earlier and realized I had never been ice skating. So here I am." MMT *
Today, on my nursing shift at the hospital, I was forced into a moment of perspective when I got off the phone, flustered, after having an argument with my boyfriend, and my nine-year-old patient who’s dying of leukemia asked me if I was ok. MMT *
Today, during a heavy rain storm, as my 9-year-old daughter was still crying about the recent loss of our house cat to old age, the stray cat she let into our garage to get out of the rain gave birth to 6 kittens. MMT *
Today, I took my guitar up to the city center intending to busk and make some money for a festival ticket I wanted. Instead I decided to play next to a homeless. I made over $100 for him and spoke to him for a few hours. Turns out he had lost his wife and house in the same week a year ago, and told me through tears that he never believed a stranger could be so kind. MMT *
Today, after nearly 12 years without a intelligible word spoken, my deaf-mute daughter hugged me tight and said, “I love my daddy!” MMT *
Today, I’m in the Marines and currently stationed in Korea. This morning it was particularly rainy and dreary. Before I was on duty while I was walking to work I decided to splash through a big puddle on the sidewalk like I used to do as a little kid. A Major stopped me and asked, “What are you doing, soldier?” I replied, “Letting my inner child out while I walk, Sir!” He smiled and said, “Carry on, soldier!” As he walked away he purposely jumped up and splashed a puddle himself, laughed, and walked out of sight.
