TidBit Thursday.

I'm fairly certain that when I was growing up weeks lasted much longer than they do now.
What's up with that? What've y'all been up to?
Me? Just burying myself in History books. Had an awesome class today. I really enjoy my COMM (Communications.. my major.. hence the excitement for it is not a dreaded core course) class today. Granted I get no credit hours for it, but still, it's a pretty cool class. Most classes are talks by different AWESOME people who do AMAZING things. It's pretty inspirational and fun. Tonight's speaker was Jef Gibbons. Pretty cool dude.

Let's link up shall we?

Bear With Me.

It's almost going to be Thursday again and I haven't blogged since last Thursday! This is no good.
But this is how it is. I'm taking far too many classes, and I don't know far too many things. But it'll be ok. I think. Just.. don't ever let me take 16 semester hours again? Ok? Or seven classes. Whichever. Anyways, I'll be back more regularly sometime soon.. like .. April .. after I finish school. Hehe. But for now, please bear with me, don't leeeaveee meee!

Is it any surprise? Le wet weather.. So much of it, supposed to be a sunny weekend though!
I'll keep my hopes up.
I'm finally feeling like the foreigner I am..
I'm pretty sure I will fail History. I've given up wanting to do well in it. I just want to pass.
It's taught more as a "theoretical" history class, but that gets really complicated when you have no solid background to it. I've never been taught Canadian history. Things the Proff takes for granted that I know, I've never heard of. This will be interesting.
Has anyone read this book? Has anyone ever read anything by Flannery O'Connor?
She is my Proff's favorite so I never say anything in class, but this is my space so.. O'Connor freaks me out. I don't particularly enjoy her writing, no matter how good it may be, but hey, it's a matter of taste and it was fast reading. So, just asking if you've read it.
We have the absolute nicest neighbors! Many of them have been coming over once in a while to introduce themselves and welcome us to the community. This week a lady from around the corner came and brought flowers. Our new neighborhood is pretty wonderful. (:

The Information Fog.

Yesterday was Monday. Mondays scare me. Because as you know, everything happens on Monday. Yesterday, I was scared of panicking. Yesterday I had to drive to school. School. Where there are extreme expectations and judgmental grades and astounding amounts of information. ..

Yesterday was Monday. Yesterday was foggy. Driving in dense fog was on the great list of things I have never done. As I do most things on that list, I approached it with a good dose of hesitance and apprehension.

Know what I found out? It happens to not be that scary. If you remember to take it one 1/2 mile at a time – if you keep your attention on the block of road right ahead, if you keep your eyes on what you can see, if you don't focus on all the blur that you can't make out – it's actually quite possible to get through!

So I've resolved this to be my take on what one of my Professors call, "the Information Fog". I'm going to take school and papers and grades one day at a time.. and when that gets too much, I'll take it a half day at a time, a class at a time, a breath at a time. I have a tendency for worry, for panic attacks and "freaking out" sessions. But I'm tired of those.

I'm keeping my attention on the block of road right ahead, I'll keep my eyes on what I can see, I won't try to grasp the blur that I can't make out. I won't worry about the big picture, I'll take care of what I can chew right now. And you'll see. Turns out I can get through a school semester after-all. (:

One day at a time, sweet Jesus
That's all I'm asking from you
Give me the strength to do everything that I have to do
Yesterday's gone sweet Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine
Help me today
Show me the way
One day at a time.

Thank you guys so much!
All of you make my day super special and brighter and THANK YOU!

I've Got New Glasses, Want a Pair?

When I picked out my first pair of glasses it was through one foolproof method. I tried on every pair in the store and the first one that "looked like me" was the one. Of course, I tried on every other pair just in case, but every so often I would make the optics store lady go back to "the one", unlock it, and hand it over for me to try on again.

They are black, and white with a thick frame. It looked like me. I bought them. Wore them. Loved them. And then there was a problem. The thick frames blocked my peripheral view. Not cool. Especially when doing shoulder checks. Apparently the whole point is to check your peripheral view, or something like that. So now I needed a new pair. A pair with thinner frames, less obtrusive, daintier, and less obstructive too. But, uh, ain't nobody got that kind of money, right?

Enter Firmoo. Firmoo is a wonderful online company that sells eyewear. You choose a frame, punch in your prescription, and they'll mail you your glasses! A couple of weeks ago they contacted me asking if I'd be willing to write a review for them. They provided me with the glasses, and I'd write the review. I accepted.

Choosing a pair was easy and hard. Easy because they have a great selection, and hard because they have a great selection. I have trouble making decisions. Plus! They have prescription sunglasses too! Awesome or what?! I finally settled on this pair.

They're much thinner than my RayBans, they're titanium!, just what I needed, and, by the way, the price includes 1.50 single vision lenses. That's more than I need anyway!

Yesterday, I received my brand new glasses. Let me tell you something. I am blown away by the small details and attention companies take for their customers. Sure the overall quality of the product they're selling is extremely important, but when they go the extra mile? They win me over wholly.

Not only were my glasses just as they were pictured online, they came with two cases, an extra pair of pad plates, a key to tighten them on, and a cleaning cloth.  The hard case was a bit bent/twisted but that probably occurred during shipping. One thing: The lenses aren't anti-glare, so be aware of that.

So what do you guys think? I like them and I'm quite happy with my new pair of glasses. The lenses are the right prescription, they fit, they're here and mine.

But guess what.. Firmoo is giving you, the reader, a free pair as well! The frames, the lenses – all free. You pay shipping (reasonable shipping rates) and there they'll be. Check out the frames they offer HERE. (Just scroll down.) Again, they have prescription sunglasses and glasses, but they also just sell the frames with no prescription. Here's their take on it:

Any hot glasses/sunglasses /goggles frames you want can be found on Firmoo, and all are available for both prescription lenses and non-prescription lenses. Are you desperate to have a new look? Now here is the chance, Firmoo has launched a First Pair Free Program to people  worldwide. You will absolutely fall in love with the excellent quality, affordable prices, fashionable designs, fast delivery and the good service after trying them with paying shipping only! You even can get a refund/exchange if you are not satisfied with them. It's totally Risk free, so why not have a try?
Click here (http://www.firmoo.com/free-glasses.html) to get your free glasses now!

If you're in need of a new pair, I recommend Firmoo!

TidBit Thursday Link Up.

I'm heading off to class, but today's my last day before the weekend. I'm pretty happy with myself for not having classes on Friday. Gives me time for homework. I know it's probably getting tiring to just read about my classes or university, so I promise to do my best to find time to post other things. I just can't promise too much too often. In one of my classes, however, we sometimes get to do personal essays; the teacher from that class has allowed me to post it here afterwards. (:
And! If I get it published somewhere, like Teen Ink, I get bonus points! Awesome right?!

What have you been up to?

Everything Happens on Monday.

There was snow on the highway today.

My first class began at 10 a.m. and my last one finished at 5:30 p.m.
I had ten minutes between each.

As soon as I turned onto the campus "driveway" my tire went flat. All flat. Completely flat.
I lack the skills needed to change tires. Both sets of skills. Meaning not only do I not know how to get on my knees and change the dumb tire myself, but I cannot bat my eyelashes or flirt or get coherent sentences to form much less ask a cute guy to help me out. Doesn't matter. The maintenance man was the sweetest and most genuinely nice person I've met on campus so far. I might adopt him as my grandfather. Do I need to run that by him?

It was dark when I left for home.

I couldn't speed on the highway because of the temporary tire. So I was behind a truck the whole time. Pretty cool.

It was -4ยบ C today and snowing. I don't care if that's warm where you come from. I don't care for it at all.

I had 3 hours of Sociology class today. Quite interesting. What does one do when one has to pee halfway through a class that long?

And there's more.. but that more is waiting for me to attack it. It's on the kitchen table. And I'm dreading it while at the same time anticipating it.

Thank God tomorrow's Tuesday and supposed to be a shorter day.

Things don't happen on Tuesdays right? 'Cause everything happens on Monday...?

TidBits from "Enter Month Here."

These are scattered tidbits from the months past...
Because not everyone has twitter.

Just give me Judd Nelson thrusting his fist in the air because he knows he got me... Just give my Patrick Swayze reminding everyone that nobody puts baby in the corner.. Just give me Patrick Dempsey offering to ride away on the back of his lawn mower.. Or give me Eric Stoltz telling me he didn't know. '85 - '87

Imma get myself a big fat Newfoundland pup. That shall be my equivalent of a cat collection. I shall be known as the "crazy Newfoundland puppy lady." Because I could never be normal and be something that already exists.

Doing laundry like a big girl!
So far so good. It's the next day and I'm still waiting for clothes to dry 'cause I forgot to check if they were dry last night.

On the way to the airport, Victor pointed out a restaurant that offers "Indian Style Chinese Food" .. well that ought to be interesting, no?

So we were going to pick up Daddy at the airport.. But the car doors are frozen.. and refuse to open..So we have to wait now...

I kind of..um.. have trouble paying attention. Especially to vital details. This is problematic in so many things, baking very much included. See, sometimes I decide to get creative and look up a recipe, except it's in "British" meaning the measurements are like so:

170g flour

I am left gaping at that. I have no idea how much that is. No idea I tell you. None.
Anyways, a really nice lady wrote the recipe like so:

170g/3/4 cup flour

Easy right? British and American measurements (there's a more technical way to say that I'm sure) side by side. Perfect! Right? Except.. it's super easy to miss that 3 there... Take your time .. subtract the 3 from that and what do you get?... I'm telling you..I shouldn't be allowed to bake anymore.

Helped Victor w/ his paper route today. Passed by a house with Halloween decor still up. I think they're confused. (Yes yes he's the golden child. Already has a job while I'm here spending it all on thin textbooks. Whatever.)

If you vacuum a spider it dies right? I'm terribly afraid it won't and will, instead, survive and come back a 6-legged creature thirsty for revenge!

Just finished organizing Monopoly; who plays and then leaves everything upside down like that!? All the money was in chaos! (I might have spent more time than I care to admit, sitting down amidst three Monopoly boxes and organizing everything. Cards, money, houses/hotels. I see your smirks. I know, when I have kids this will seem so silly. But I don't! So leave me to my crazy organizing ways!

I changed Blogger to "English - UK" just to see what would change. Nothing really did except I read everything in a UK accent in my head. ( I will never read it w/ an accent out loud because Loki-Lou and Sleepy Joe would, with good reason, be terribly insulted. )

From the week I finished high school:
This week was fabulous... now.. let's make it even better and GET THESE FINALS OVER WITH!

Pankicking? Darn it I just made up a new word... to get rid of finals.. we're gonna pankick!!

Humor Me Friday.

I'm not a Twilight fan, nor am I a Twilight hater.. Twilight's just .. there..
But this.. this had me rolling..

Which is ridiculous because so many people have handled it before hand..

No comments necessary.

Anybody know how to explain this to me?

Speaking of airports...

Reminded me of RDK's series!

Don't forget to link up everyone!

TidBit Thursday.

Last day of classes for this week! That means I got through my first week. In a way, I guess this week is the easiest. A couple of classes were let out early and for the most part, the classes consisted mainly of introductions and the handing out of syllabi. On the other hand, I think this might have been the hardest week. It's an overwhelming amount of information and so much to organize! While I'm confident that once I set a schedule and time to work on specific things so everything can be handed in on time, etc. all will be well, I'm also a little doubtful.

Somehow it'll all work out. But this week consisted of parting with fortunes in textbooks, in the good faith that this fortune shall be returned to me in fountains of valuable information. We shall see. While I haven't had trouble talking to people and making acquaintances and class-walking-to-and-fro buddies, a couple of days into the semester hasn't exactly given time for bonding with anyone or friend making. But I love the environment, love the busy-ness, love the people and chapel meetings where everyone sings, prays and listens to a preach for a couple of minutes together; it's a welcome break.

Ahem .. anyways, today is supposed to be about you! About linking up and commenting on what we've all been up to lately. That's what's been happening around here.. what was your week like?

Stream of Consciousness While Waiting for Class to Begin.

(English class [which I feel I will LOVE] was let out early today, so I have ten minutes to write...)

This is most interesting, you see.
Sometimes I panic, and freak out, and shiver and tremble.
Then I feel calm and shivers of excitement.
Sometimes my brain feels calm.. but my body breaks into a cold sweat and shakes.
But it will be alright. One more day 'til the end of the first week.
It'll be fine.
I'll know what I'm doing..soon..hopefully.
Chapel is one of my favorite parts.. not having a set time for lunch isn't.
I love lunch!
I should probably stop typing now. The class is filling up with people.

So far.. so good..

On the First Day of University.

On the first day of university...
It was orientation day.
I had no classes.
There was a parent meeting.
So Daddy drove me.
It was pouring rain.
I made friends.
We laughed.
I was complimented on my style.
My day was made.
I bought textbooks.
I am broke.
I met only one other Communications Major.
I met a Brazilian.
I met two bloggers.
I got even more excited about my studies.
Yes, apparently that's possible.

On the first day of university...
I had a pretty good day.

And off to Orientation I go ...
Today shouldn't be too bad..right?
Just settling in time and getting to know the place..
That's safe..right?

Today There Was Music.

Last year was a year of meeting deadlines in order to meet other deadlines; a year full of items that demanded being crossed off a must-do list. A year that left me gasping for breath. A year that's now over. Last year didn't give me enough time to sit down and write expectations, resolutions or goals and deadlines for this new one. So I'm enjoying the breathing time. I've decided on not stressing about the expectations, resolutions or goals and deadlines for this new year, wanna know why?

Because today... today there was music, there was laughter, there were jokes, there were stories shared, there were moments of gratitude and thankfulness. Today there was company, and talking, and playing and eating–lots and lots of eating. Today there was a baby in the house, and he laughed and smiled, and all's right in the world when babies laugh.

Today, our odd assortment of friends and acquaintances in Abbotsford got together and spoke of the year that has gone by and welcomed the year that is now before us. And while I sat there, and listened to each one get up and thank God for His blessings, then thank us for hospitality and friendship, I was humbled. I don't love easily. I am ashamed to say it, but it's true. I don't have the open heart and agape love I should. I work at it, I pray for it, and oftentimes I fail. But today, there among our group of the most varied and random characters, with our broken Englishes and tens of clashing cultures, I felt proud too. Proud to be part of this crazy array. Proud to call them my friends. Proud we're all part of a big family. Proud that for the most part, we make it work.  We forgive each other, we laugh together, we cry together too. As one of us mentioned, "We're all His children, and that's all that matters."

So we brought in the new year with good food, stories, thankfulness, music and laughter.

And you know what? I'm done planning and worrying and "deadlining" for this year ahead.. wanna know why?
Because today... today there was music, there was laughter, there were jokes, there were stories shared, there were moments of gratitude and thankfulness. Today there was company, and talking, and playing and eating, lots and lots of eating. Today there was a baby in the house, and he laughed and smiled, and all's right in the world when babies laugh.
So from our little corner of craziness, Happy New Year!
