Denim and Flowers.

Oh summer how I loveth thee! And yes, summer is finally here this week! Which is quite exciting because I need to tan. Apparently if I stay inside that doesn't happen though. Bummer. Anyways, here's what I wore for a stroll in the park yesterday. I love this dress because even though it's so long, it's so breezy and cool. It's perfect for warm summer days. Wouldn't recommend a denim top though. That thing conserves heat like a North Face® jacket.
Denim shirt - DKNY Jeans
Dress - Forever 21 (last summer)
Sandals - Brazil
What are doing/wearing to keep cool? Do you have any plans for this summer?
P.S. Today is Google Reader's last day of existence! Are you following me on BlogLovin' yet? :) http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/3213911/papa-is-a-preacher

TidBit Thursday.

Do you have pen-pals? Do you still send or receive snail mail? When you do or did... did you ever add anything extra into the envelopes? Recipes, cards, photos, perfume samples, confetti. I'm looking for ideas for an envelope I'm mailing to a friend. So if you have any ideas, please let me know! :D Are you working on any projects this summer?

Summer Dress.

I've been searching for dresses for ages. It's hard to find something that's not lacking in length or sleeves or that's not too tight or extraordinarily expensive. While I'm still on the look-out for my dream day-dress, I've found a few to keep me content for the time being. I found this in a thrift shop a couple of weeks ago and I bought it with the intention of having it shortened some. So far it hasn't happened and I'm enjoying its flowly length. Who knows, I might keep it like this. Maybe.

Dress - Asian brand that I can't read via Thrift
Sweater - American Eagle (previously seen here)
Shoes - Kenzie (previously seen here)
Do you have a favorite summer dress? Did it take you long to find it? Where you looking for it? What does it look like? Are you still on a quest for that perfect dress?

Humor Me Friday Family Photo Session Edition.

Instead of doing a Humor Me Friday installment this week, I was going to put up new family photos that we took in the backyard. Apparently now I'm doing both. You see...family photos is notorious for 1. stressing everyone out
2. taking forever to get a good one
3. filling up memory cards with photos and getting three decent ones at best
4. making it hard to love your siblings
5. produce photos you will laugh at and they will not, and vice-versa.

So below I present to you only three of the many out-takes from our family photo session.
But whatcha gonna do, right?
We're thinking maybe this one is the one we'll keep:
or this one
Meh, we're cute when we want to be. :)
What happens during your family photo sessions? Do you take them regularly? Do you have a professional do them?

TidBit Thursday.

This past week's highlights? Uhm. None, really. I'm almost finished reading two books, (Pride and Prejudice – I know, I know, took me long enough; and The Story of Jesus by E.G.W. totally recommend this one. So insightful, so moving.) Halfway through a little project I need to get done by next month, and trying to keep up with what's going on in Brazil. So this week was as slow as it gets...I've barely been out of the house. What have you done this week? Where have you gone? Pretty sure it was more exciting than my week.

Let's Keep In Touch!

Hello everyone! So ... Google is changing this whole thing up and we'll no longer have our Google Reader (for me that's when I'm on my dashboard and scroll down to see all the new posts y'all have to share.) Yeah, that's going away. Shall we take a moment of silence?

Anyways, everyone is trying to come up with a good way to keep in touch. Well, Papa is a Preacher is basically everywhere. We're on Twitter (I post links when a new post is published), Facebook, and you can get us in your inbox! But we're also on BlogLovin' (and a few other places).

BlogLovin' is kind of like one big Google Reader website. You log in and and up pop all the blog posts you've yet to read. Yeah, it's cool like that. You mark the ones you've read, the ones you've favorited, and you can make categories! Fashion blogs, food blogs, random blogs, "must-read-I-love-these" blogs. You get the idea.

If you want, BlogLovin' will send you an e-mail a day with all of the posts from the blogs you follow. It's pretty neat. For followers it's a great way to keep track of all the blogs you enjoy!

But what if you follow tons of blogs? Ain't nobody got time to go look for them all on BlogLovin', right? Well, with this tutorial you can sync all of the blogs you have on Google Reader onto BlogLovin'!

First things first. You're signed into your own Blogger account, right? Just making sure! Now login into (or make–super easy) a BlogLovin' account too. (P.S. If you don't have a BlogLovin' and create one, you don't even need this tutorial. Just make a BlogLovin' account and when this page comes up:
Click on Import from Google Reader, follow the directions on the screen and let it do its thing. ;)

If you're  already on BlogLovin' here's how to import all of the blogs you read onto BlogLovin'.

Scroll over your lovely profile photo to get a drop down menu like so and click on settings:

Now scroll down....no further...all the way down to the bottom of the page! Until you see this:
This is the part where you hear the angel choir going "Ahhhhhhh"...because BOOM! You've found it.

Click on "Import Blogs" and it'll take you to this:
And you will immediately click on Google Reader. (Because who even knows what OPML/XML is?)

Now follow the directions on the screen
Seriously... What did I just say in the last window? *sigh* Click on Import from Google Reader to assure it that it is doing the right thing,
Reward its politeness by accepting. (Click Accept), and now just sit back and let the site do it's own thing.
And voila! You will be redirected to your newsfeed where you may scroll down and see all of the blogging sweetness you will be missing from your Blogger Dashboard in two-three weeks!
Make sure Papa is a Preacher is there! Click here and follow us on BlogLovin'. :) Hope the tutorial helped, and I know I'm not very good at explaining things so if you have any questions, just leave a comment and I'll try again. :)

Father's Day.

Please excuse the absence of a Sunday Style post today. We were busy celebrating Father's Day... by cleaning the yard. *shrugs* He seems to enjoy it. :)

My dad is so many things at once. He's a father, husband, brother, minister, missionary, Corporate Secretary, provider, care-taker, comforter and master-mind who always knows just what to say, what solution to give and how to solve every problem. He's still my hero, my standard, my example and my rock. Thank you Daddy, for your love, your presence, your patience, the lessons you've taught me, opportunities you've given me and so much more. Thank you for being my dad. I loves you.
Something about... Like Father Like Daughter. Photo circa 2009.

Reflecting.

It seems to get easier and easier to lose sight of God and His greatness. It's even possible to lose sight of Him while doing good, while working for Him and while praising His name. It seems to get easier and easier to get wrapped up in our actions, motives, and outcomes that we become too busy to reflect on Who it is we are living for. The Bible tells us that Christ is our example as to how we are to live (John13:15), and it also says that what we meditate upon is what we shall become
(Proverbs 23:7). So today I just want to take that minute to not ask God for anything, not to speak to Him of my trials and worries, rather to reflect on Him and thank Him for Who He is. Join me?

Earlier today I was reading a passage that mentioned how the last thing an artist does when he finishes a painting is sign it. The author of that passage then drew a parallel to how the Creator made sure to leave His autograph on each of His handiworks. What is His autograph? Love. On every flower petal, every leaf, every beating heart and every drop of rain or ray of sun–all creation sings of God's mighty works of love.

When Christ was here on earth He exemplified the characteristics of God. Upon visiting the temple in Jerusalem and seeing how the building that was meant to be a house of worship was instead being used as a market place where sellers of animals swindled buyers who came to purchase animals for their sacrifices, Christ twice rose up and drove them out of the temple. Rather than complaining to His father or disciples, Christ Himself acted towards clearing the temple.

One episode of Jesus' life that always has a humbling effect on me is His "trial" before Annas, Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin. There were so many things legally wrong with the way Christ was tried. The accusations were false, the trial was performed during the night which was against Jewish law, and there were times when one look from Christ could have freed Him from His oppressors. Yet the attitude with which He bore everything that passed that night and those days strikes my heart that still has so much to learn about letting things go without need of defending myself. He was quiet and subordinate throughout the whole ordeal and at times did not even waste His breath on questions He knew were asked not out of sincerity but out of scorn.

God is love.
God is righteous anger. God is active.
God is wisdom, meekness and submissiveness to Divine plan.

These are just of my thoughts as to Who He is. What about you? What are some of your favorite attributes of God?

TidBit Thursday.

So this week decided to go by in the blink of an eye. Goodness gracious! Almost half of my summer vacation has already passed by. What is this madness? What have I been doing? Absolutely nothing productive. Wasting my time with things I know I will regret later on. Come Autumn I will say "Why, oh why did I waste my summer?!" But hey, what's life if you don't have any regrets. I did finally get a bookshelf for my room. All my books are put away and no more boxes for me! Mostly anyways. There's just something so comforting about having a bookshelf in my room. What have you been up to? Has school let out yet? Any summer vacation plans? Let me know!

Recitals and Petticoats

Friday afternoon the Kid and I participated in our music school's annual spring recital. It was my first presentation with them and yes... I was quite nervous. But it went well and the Kid played wonderfully as always. More on that later, this is what I wore. I do apologize for the photo quality, something funky was going on with my camera. Hoping it's fixed now. Anyways, this  is what I wore. One of the things I absolutely love about this skirt is the hint of petticoats it has on the trim. I absolutely love it!
Hair clip - Romania
Cardigan - Forever21
